LEAD COACH/TRAINER – PETER PAIN
I served in the British Army for 33 years in numerous countries around the world having passed the infamous “P Company” parachute selection as long ago as 1981.
I have always had a passion for sport, the great outdoors and being active. I started off playing rugby, boxed at club level and after a shoulder injury took up running. I competed in running events from 5km to marathons, cross country and orienteering; including races such as the Original Mountain Marathon over 2 days. Tired of running I decided on a new challenge, so took up triathlon!!
I have raced every triathlon distance from Sprint to Ironman. I was a member of the Army Triathlon Association for 19 years; coached members from novice to elite over a 12 year period, managed training camps both in the UK and overseas, organised races and was involved in all aspects of club development. I was also fortunate enough to race for the Army Team for 15 years and claimed 2 bronze medals and gold with the team at the National Club Relay Championship and also represented the Army at numerous Inter-Services Championships. I am also competitive in the age group racing scene and have represented GB at World Championship level.
I currently coach individuals and groups on organised training camps giving 1-2-1 and group coaching within the East Midlands area both in triathlon, cycling and fitness. I am the lead coach at Witham Wheelers Cycle Club taking a particular interest in developing the youth section of the club.
In 2009 I was honoured to gain the Outstanding Contribution to Coaching Award. I was somewhat shocked to gain the same award again in 2010. The picture at the top of the page is the British Cycling Federation Chairman Mr Brian Cookson OBE presenting me with the Coaching Award.
My qualifications are British Triathlon Level 3 Coach, British Cycling Level 2 Road and Time Trial Coach, ASA Swim Teacher and Level 3 Personal Trainer and qualified Sports Massage Therapist. I also tutor for both British Triathlon and British Cycling on their coaching courses. I have CRB clearance from various sporting organisations. All of these can be seen on request.
There is nothing I enjoy more than being able to pass on my knowledge and passion for sport and fitness to others.
